MT & Dictionary building
Our services entailing Machine Translation:
- Review existing client documentation for suitability for MT
- Not all text types are suited for processing with MT. We will help you determine which of your documentation types are suitable.
- Develop customer-specific dictionaries from legacy data or,
- Develop customer-specific dictionaries based on a source language documentation analysis
- Customer-specific dictionaries (CSD) greatly enhance the quality of the MT output. If a body of translated legacy data exists, we can use our data mining tools to quickly and reliably produce customer-specific dictionaries. Otherwise, we can develop CSDs from the source language data.
- Consult in selection of appropriate MT software for intended use/languages
- Not all MT products on the market are alike, and while there are several clear market leaders, each MT program has its strengths and weaknesses. These strengths and weaknesses may depend on the required languages or on the subject matters. Our analysis of your translation needs will yield the program that is best suited for your needs.
- Implement MT solution at client location or
- Implement client’s MT solution at Digital Language Services
- For in-house situations, where the client prefers to retain the MT software and the dictionaries in-house (e.g. for safeguarding proprietary information, or in case of in-house translation departments) we will manage the complete installation and integration into the client’s systems. If retention of the MT system at Digital Language Services is preferred, we will ensure the confidentiality of client materials and CDSs just as we do for all our client materials.
- Pre-editing of documentation to be translated
- In many cases, it is worthwhile to pre-edit documents before translation. MT does not recognize spelling errors, for example, and extremely long sentences almost always present major problems for the MT software. Pre-editing has proved itself to be very efficient, especially when the translation is to be into several languages. - Post-editing training
- If you intend to use your own in-house translators, we can prepare them and train them in the best and most efficient post-editing techniques.
- Post-editing services
- We can, of course, take care of all your post-editing needs.
Services applying Translation Memory
- Review existing client documentation for suitability for TM
- Not all text types are suited for processing with TM. We will help you determine which of your documentation types are suitable
- Create a Translation Memory from client legacy data
- If a body of previously translated documents exists, DLS can create translation memories from these. This procedure boosts the start-up phase of translation projects and eliminates the need for building a TM from future translations.
- Implement TM solution at the client location or,
- Implement client’s TM solution at Digital Language Services
- For in-house situations, where the client prefers to retain the TM software and the databases in-house (e.g. for safeguarding proprietary information, or in the case of in-house translation departments) we will take care of the complete installation and integration into the client’s systems. If retention of the MT system at Digital Language Services is preferred, we will ensure the confidentiality of client materials and TMs as we do for all our client materials.
- Maintain translation memories
- Ensures that translation memories are reviewed and revised regularly. This will prevent the introduction of inconsistencies into the databases and guarantee strict adherence to the client’s specific nomenclature.
